An Igbo lady seems to be vexed about the bill her Isoko husband had to pay to marry her because he was not an Igbo. According to her, she and her husband have been financially drained and now she is in debt, not being able to sleep or eat well.

Read what she wrote below on Facebook…
Quote
“I’m really angry and I must rant this rant……
I want to sincerely beg all igbo fathers here to pls stop the act of billing their daughters husbands to be just because they’re non igbos. It’s not fair at all because while they’re enjoying the money, their daughters are at the receiving end.
I’m of no doubt that some igbo ladies make good wives and all….my traditional wedding was last month and in all honesty, I now understand why most men marry igbo wives and subject them to suffering, i understand why most Igbo women are baby mamas instead of being the wives………. My husband is isoko and all his friends (igbos included) has vowed not get involved with any igbo lady.
I know some of my brothers and sisters would want to insult me, I know some of my friends here would want to inbox me to interrogate me, I don’t care because we’re back in Lagos, broke and for the first time in a long while, I’m now a debtor and can’t sleep or eat well.”

U must be a broke ass lady, and your husband too. U were not forced to pay anything. My wife is from Efurun, Warri. We have been married for 16 yrs. I took care of business: sent her to college (university), took her away from the hardship and agony of unemployment etc going on in Naija. Today, she is a happy lady and living good. So, u and your broke man u chose to marry u need to do something different from what is causing u to regret marriage cost. How much did your husband pay to trigger your social media ranting? He could have given them the much he could afford and still walk away with u as his wife. BTW, marriage debt is never completely finished - that is Igbo concept.

First of all, you comes from a greedy Family, because all around in Igbo land, every Fathers wish is to see His Daughter have a happy marriage life, so the high bride price is always swept under carpet, this will be between the Husband and Father inlaw. The most important is that you are such a valueless burden, if not your Husband will be Happy to pay anything to have you. Marriage is for Men not boys. Every tribe is cheap depending on the girl you are getting married to.

This is really a rant. Makes sense if you appeal that the bride price should be reasonable but senseless if you polarise your appeal- bringing Idichitomy in etnicity into the picture. I married an Igbo lady and my father inlaw collected no dime from me. It depends on your family and the crusade should start from your household.

I know some folks still pay up to 1million bucks as bride price

But, i pity that to-be father in law who would ask me to pay up to 500k as bride price for his daughter

...after making such an outrageous payment & the wedding is done, no member of her family will be allowed to visit my house again

...especially the parents
