Janet, who is now standing trial for conspiracy and stealing told the court that she collected the money for the services she rendered to him and did not know that he stole the money.
Janet and her boyfriend, Wasiu, have been charged to court for conspiracy and stealing the sum of N3.4 million from Alhaji Mumuni Akinboye who is Wasiu’s boss.
Also charged with them is Emmanuel Ifedayo who was alleged to have arranged for the lodging of the money in the bank.
When they were brought to court they pleaded not guilty to the charge and later confessed that they were guilty and had returned the money to the police.
The magistrate, Mrs. M.B. Folami frowned at the way the police investigation was carried out and ordered the police officer in charge of the matter to bring the other suspect who was not arraigned before the court.
It was during the sitting that Janet, who wept throughout the court session, pleaded that she actually collected the money but did not know that the money she received from her boyfriend was stolen.
The court ruled that since the defendants have pleaded guilty of committing the crime and one of the accomplices was not charged along with them, the police should bring the accused in the next sitting.
The matter was adjourned till 7 May, 2010 for the court to determine the next line of action while the accused were ordered to be remanded in prison custody.
