President Muhammadu Buhari fired 35 aides from the office the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo without prior consultation with the vice-president, in a move that came as a surprise to several Nigerians and as a symbol of disrespect for the office of the vice president. The access cards of the sacked aides were immediately revoked after the announcement.

- Awolowo Babajide, grandson of Obafemi Awolowo who was special adviser, oil and gas.

- Arukino Umukoro – special adviser, Niger Delta
- Bala Liman Mohammed – senior special assistant, Economy
- Edobor Iyamu – senior special assistant, Niger Delta
- Dolapo Bright – senior special assistant, agro allied value chain
