Meet Sani Musa, The Senator Proposing Death Penalty For Nigerian Social Media Offenders

Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, representing Niger East senatorial district, has revealed the reason why he decided to sponsor the controversial social media bill in the upper legislative chamber. Speaking on Channels TV on Wednesday, November 20, said his goal is to check the viral spread of fake news and misinformation on social media. Senator Musa said his aim was neither to use the bill as an avenue to gag the press nor deny Nigerians their constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech.
He cited the rumors of Buhari’s wedding to a serving Minister as one of the reasons why such a bill is needed.
