It was a blessing received with mixed feelings by Mr Ambrose Akamigbo, an indigene of Ukpo in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, when his wife, Mrs Jane Akamegbo, gave birth to a set of triplets recently at Park Lane Teaching Hospital, Enugu.

The Akamigbos already have two kids and had hoped to have another one, but God gave them three instead. Although the couple is happy about the gift from God, they are not hiding it that their new bundle of joy has brought to the household additional responsibility which has become a cause for serious concern.

When Daily Sun visited the home of the couples, Mr Akamigbo was shedding tears of joy in appreciation to God over His mercy and love towards his family. Excerpts :

Background

I am Mr Ambrose Akamegbo, a native of Ukpo in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State. I am a civil servant with the Ministry of Education in Enugu. I am happy that my wife delivered triplets without any problem and I thank God for His mercies and love. But, before we had this triplet, we already had two children, a boy and a girl. To be frank with you we were not expecting this miracle, but we still thank God for it.

How I received the news

In the first place, I must continue to thank God for His love and mercies towards my family. As a man, whenever your wife is pregnant, you can never have rest of mind until she gives birth. That was my situation. On that fateful day, when my wife went to the hospital and I was asked to go and get some things, I was like been set on a high jump. Before I came back she has gone into the labour room, and after several hours, one of the nurses came out and congratulated me. When I asked for my wife, I was told that she will soon come out. After several hours of waiting, I was worried and was praying that God should help me so that she will come out without any problem. After some time, they told me that she has delivered another baby; I could not hold myself. As I was still praying for her to come out of the labour room, the doctor finally came out and congratulated me and told me that my wife has delivered triplets successfully. I did not believe myself, but when I saw the babies, I was very happy and I did not know when tears of joy started flowing out.

Family linage

Well, in my own case, I was neither a twin nor my wife; even in my family linage we do not have such. And that is why when they told me about it I did not believe them because I’m of that school of thought that believes that it mostly happen to those that have such in their family linage. But in my own case, I see it as what God has destined for my family and I thank Him for blessing me. Already, before this triplet, we have two kids, a boy and a girl, and with the triplets, my family has increased which amounts to so much responsibility for us, especially at this tender age.

Health of the babies

I must thank God for His mercies, the kids were delivered normally and since after their delivery, they are feeling all right and none of them has any form of abnormality. They have normal weight as at the time of their delivery. My wife is also in a normal state.

Why men abandon their wives after gift of twins

I must tell you, it is by the grace of God, it is not an easy task. I have come to know why some men abandon their wives when they are delivered of triplets or more. The reason is not far-fetched. With the present economic situation in the country; it is not easy to shoulder this responsibility. You know, as a man expecting a baby, I made plans that cover normal responsibility of a single baby, but you can see now that the plans could no longer hold. When we were told that she had twins, we decided to try our best to see how to accommodate the new order. Today, the plan for two has been overtaken by the new situation.
