I recently approached my BIG brother and his wife
to inform them about my decision to marry the wife's younger sister,
they were both against it.

I rushed to inform my mum, she was also against it.
Why can't i marry my sister in law?

see her as ur sister and not a lover or wife

Since they are two different persons, i wud say there is nothing wrong with the idea. But considering our culture, where marriage concerns the two extended families, it is not a good idea to marry your sister-in-law. Pls look outwards, we are no longer in the garden of eden.

I do not see anything wrong with that, but at the same time, I see everything wrong with that from your mother's unspoken point of view. Most mothers with more than one child would prefer her children to marry people from different families thereby avoiding having one family as in-laws. If something happens to one family, it directly affects every member of the other family and that is not good at all. Keeping multiple In-laws are very good in many ways you can think of. Especially with mother's these days. they always want to have many inlaws from different families.
