The mandate for the marabouts was that some Arabic inscriptions should be written on a slate, taken to a graveyard and buried between two freshly dug graves while some incantations should be recited to the effect that the governor should die or be rendered useless for the rest of his life.
Assistant Director of Operations, State Security Service (SSS), Mr. Adeniyi Alfred, who spoke with journalists, said the men were arrested following a tip off.
According to him, the SSS laid siege to the area where the suspects reside in order to arrest them, but they fled, leaving behind some materials with photographs of the governor and some Islamic inscriptions on it.
Alfred said officers of the command later arrested four persons in a hotel in Damaturu, who told the SSS during interrogation that they were allegedly contracted by one Ahmed Mohammed, a staff member of the Government House, Damaturu, to pray for the governor’s success in the 2011 general elections.
The SSS said they were in the Government House, Damaturu, to enquire of anybody with such a name as Ahmed Mohammed, but found out that no such person existed there.
Saturday Tribune was told that the SSS also found alongside some wooden slates left behing by the fleeing marabouts, an instruction on the task given to the marabouts by their contractor, which reads” “Governor Ibrahim Geidam has wronged us and he has also wronged the people of Yobe State. We are giving you this task of ensuring that Governor Ibrahim Geidam and the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Baba Goni Machina, died the same way that the former governor, late Mamman B. Ali, was made to be forgotten.
“You are advised to carry these slates and bury them in-between graves and pray that Governor Ibrahim Geidam should die and his SSG, Baba Goni Machina, should also die. Pray that, if it is not the will of Allah that he should die, let the governor become useless all the days of his life and let it be that he will not see any good days ahead.”
