UPDATE: Sentence has not been sentenced to death, the case against the notorious kidnapper is still ongoing and in a Lagos court.
In fact, all criminal cases involving Onwuamadike are ongoing -- none have proceeded yet to judgement and sentencing, said Y.A Sule, a member of the prosecuting team who spoke to AFP Fact Check.
The director of public affairs for the Lagos justice ministry, Kayode Oyekanmi, also dismissed the rumour of Onwuamadike’s death sentence as untrue.
A Lagos High Court has sentenced notorious kidnap kingpin, Chikwudubem Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, to death.
Evans was arrested in June 2017 and arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit kidnapping and kidnapping.
The Lagos State Government had said Evans conspired on February 14th, 2017 at about 7.45pm at Ilupeju, Lagos, to kidnap one Donatus Dunu and collect €223,000 for his release.
According to the police, Evans managed to escape arrest for seven years.
He was, however, arrested after a police special squad caught up with him at his No. 3, Fred Shoboyede Street, Magodo, Lagos home.
The kidnap kingpin then confessed to being responsible for many high-profile kidnap cases in many states of the country, especially Lagos State.
He also confessed to earning money running into billions of naira from his unlawful activities, having charged some of his victims up to $1 million each as ransom.

make sure all his allied are also brought to book. otherwise his death sentence can not do much good to society, as his boys will still continue with this bad business.

Conspiracy to commit kidnapping and kidnapping do not constitute to murder because there was no murder case involved. besides, what will happen to those security agents who perhaps aided him, and could be them behind his dead sentence. The judgement is biased and politically minded, it should reviewed.

Death sentence for what,did he kill or muder anyone during his kidnapping days? Nigeria judiciary is just so useless..... You can easily buy their conscience with money..

Are you into kidnapping ?i see no reason you should be challenging is death sentence if you know the damage the likes of the useless condem criminal has done to this country you be saying this.

Let's hope they enforce this judgement quickly without and before some do-gooders protest about it being barbaric and against human right. This is the least this buffoon deserves for the terrible misery him and his gang heaped on numerous number of people.
