Edo State Police command has re-arrested 10 of the inmates who allegedly escaped from the Benin Medium Custodial Centre and Oko Medium Custodial Centre, in Benin city, the state capital.
Recall that heavily armed hoodlums in the guise of #EndSARS protesters stormed the Edo prison on Monday, October 19, freed not less than 1,993 inmates and looted their armoury.
Parading the suspects alongside 116 others on Wednesday, October 28, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumon, stated that six of the escapees were re-arrested for alleged armed robbery whereas one was arrested for attempting to kill the prosecution witness who testified against him in Court.
He gave the names of the re-arrested escapee inmates as Emmanuel Udoh, Friday Etim, Victor Akpotor, Lucky Precious, Osarumen Enoragbon, Patrick Eguavoen, Abraham Matthew, Endurance Ifobuow, Mohammed Adamu and Henry Atadi.
He also mentioned that Henry Atadi, after escaping from prison, snatched a Lexus car and was arrested at Okada with the car.
The Commissioner said that Eddy Favour, Patrick Eguavoen and Abraham Mathew stole Lexus saloon car ES 330, with registration number Abuja: KWL 205 AZ, after escaping from prison and sold the automobile at Igueben, in Igueben.
He added that they were arrested with the buyers after selling the car.
However, speaking with some journalists, Atadi, denied stealing the car while claiming that he was only given a lift after they were set free from the prison by hoodlums.
“After we were set free, I didn’t have money to go home. So, as I was waiting for a vehicle, someone gave me a lift but when we get to Okada, police stopped us and the man that carried us suddenly disappeared and I was arrested”. Atadi narrated.
Also paraded were other suspects arrested for looting the Nigeria Customs Service’s warehouse, Central Medical Store’s warehouse, Olam Nigeria PLC Private Warehouse, and Blessed Doris-Dey Warehouse along Benin-Agbor Road.
