Quote from: obronous on 21-10-2008 12:38 PM Whether or not it is a tourist visa, student visa, or a visa based on medical reasons, the U.S. Embassies in Abuja and Lagos, make it almost impossible for a Nigerian to get a visa to the U.S. My Godson, who attends Imo State in Owerri, tried to get a visa based on legitimate medical reasons so he could get to the U. S. so my doctor could treat him. He was denied. The interviewer did not even look at his documents. He just wanted to know how much money he had. On my visit to Lagos last week, I went to the U.S. Embassy. It was not very helpful. It seems that only rich Nigerians can get a visa to the U.S. Can anyone give me advice on how my Godson can get a U.S. visa? Getting the US visa this days can be frustrating. I faced similar predicament when I went for consular appointment the first time. It took me 4 years after immigration petition to eventually get the visa. So personally, I would advice he keeps trying legitimately and never try other ways that might be offered him in Nigeria cos it would take him no where. Just when I have given up hope I was called for an interview at the US Consulate in Lagos and was issued an immigrant visa without interview whatsoever. And yes....the interviewers can be very nasty at times but that doesn't mean he should give up. Keep trying.

And i also believed it became more difficult after 9/11. U.S don't really want visitors of any kind entering their country for whatsoever reasons, they're more concerned with security now than ever b4. Reply

You are sooooo wrong. The rich also get turned down at the US Consulate I know this for a fact cos during the days of long queue at the Embassy I used to hustle lines and sell my space to rich people for as much as 50 grand and I have witness a lot of them come out without visa and furious. Also, on my first interview I witness Saint Obi and RMD being denied visa and I've also read about some of our senators that were refused. So it doesn't really matter who you are except for God's grace. Period! Thank u naijainct. I was just about to come and tell him the same thing too. Some things money cannot buy, and their security is definitely one of them. Just because a person pays so much money at the embassy does not guarantee his or her entry into the country. Although i am a citizen, but there are those that holds a green card and accidentally loses it, do you know the hell they have to go through to get it back>? I'm talking about up to 2 yrs for a replacement due to extensive background and document checks. So if the ones in the U.S are having a hard time getting a replacement green card, what makes u think its going to be easy for the ones outside of the country? People used to walk in and get a simple ID card, now they have to screen you back and front before you get it, and they will have to mail it to you at an address they have verified. When before you can just walk in and get it on the spot. Reply

Applying for a usa visa, the consulars does not respect your money, position in society. The only prayer for one to have is that the interviewer woke up on the right side of the bed and he/she is happy. It all boils down to luck. ReplyYou have to show enough proof that he has genuine intentions of coming back.ie he needs to have strong ties in Nigeria. For example a very good job, family ties. The best option is to get a visiting non-imigrant visa.
