Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has said it clearly that all the missionary schools in Nigeria do not belong to Christians and lashed out the Christian Association of Nigeria to stop deceiving themselves by referring missionary schools in Nigeria as Christian Schools. The development is as result of hijab crisis in Kwara State between the Muslims and the Christians.
MURIC blasted CAN for opposing a bill against the hijab was passed and scale through second reading in the House of Representatives on Tuesday. CAN said the bill would lead to trouble and the sponsors of the bill would not be able to handle it when the time comes.
However, MURIC made it known in a statement signed by, Prof. Ishaq Akintola that CAN's statement is conservative and reactionary because the bill is not designed for the purpose of hijab rights alone but also for the liberation of Nigerian women and workers from discrimination.
According to MURIC, "CAN's statement is full of threat and they are not after morality, legality and justice when opposition the bill". CAN said they are not against wearing of hijab in different other schools but not in their school, otherwise those states and looking for trouble.
MURIC said CAN will be living in self-denial if it continues to refer missionary schools as their schools because those schools have been taken over by the Gowon decree of 1974.
MURIC said further that, it is high time female students regained their freedom in School from discrimination because of hijab from Christian teachers.
