It was end of the road for a 70-year-old herbalist working for the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC), after the efficacy of his charm was tested by soldiers, attached to the Lagos State security initiative, Operation Messa. He is now in the custody of the military men.

Though, he declined to mention his name, but he described himself as a ‘great’ herbalist from Ilorin, Kwara State. He disclosed that he prepares charms for people, who usually have nightmares and other spiritual problems.
But the day he was arrested, he was not treating problems associated with nightmares.

He was alleged to have prepared charms for some suspected members of the vigilance group to save them from bullets. The herbalist was arrested for having some bags containing charms in his possession. Indeed, he admitted ownership of the charms. The Commander of the 9th Brigade in Lagos, Brig. Gen. Hassan Muazu, said his men attached to the OP Messa would not relent in their efforts to put criminals in the state in check.

He, however, warned that anybody found to be in possession of weapons illegally, would be treated as armed robbers or criminals.
General Muazu said that the suspects were having in their possession, automatic rifles and some dane guns when they were arrested. He explained that it is only the president of the country, that has the power to grant licence for automatic rifles.

Two pump action and five dane guns, including machetes and other items, suspected to be cannabis and charms were found on them.
Speaking with Daily Sun, some of the women, who were arrested alongside the OPC men, said they knew nothing about the recovered arms, adding that their only sin was that they sold local gin in the area.

“I sell herbs for treatment of fever, that was my only involvement in the matter. I do not know anything about the guns, I sell this medicine to make ends meet. My husband and the father of my five children died five years ago. As a result of that, I decided to be selling concoction at OPC meeting venue which takes place every Tuesday,” one of the suspects, identified as Funmilayo Orimolade, explained.

Funmilayo was arrested alongside her 13-year-old daughter.
General Muazu explained that the suspects would be handed over to the appropriate authority for further investigation and possible prosecution. He said the military would not spare anyone found with illegal weapons which, according to him, pose as a threat to the security of the country.

He said any OPC member found carrying arms illegally would be treated as a criminal.‘Our warning to everybody is that we won’t relent, especially, as we enter into the period of festivity. Anybody who wants to test our capability should just try it and see the stuff we are made of. I can tell you that we are capable of dealing with criminals, who want to disturb the peace of the state,” Muazu told Daily Sun.

Oga army can u pls tell us the stuff u were made of? Why do u ve to leave ur responsibilities undone and face the innocent citizens that render selfless service to humanity? If u really want to show the country as awhole the stuff u and ur useless men are made of, mobilize ur men and wage war against the blood sucking Boko Haram and stop flexin ur muscle to the OPC members. Is only in naija whre a military man can be doing the duties of a police man! Soldiers are melt to be in baracks against situation and cases like Boko Haram!nonsense cheoooorrr.
