Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has released 90 prisoners from state prisons. With this most recent release, Ganduje has now released 3,898 prisoners overall over the last seven years, according to Global News Nigeria.
The decision is in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s appeal for the decongestion of detention facilities, according to a statement by Ganduje’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Abba Anwar.
The State Prerogative of Mercy Committee carries out the activity (releasing prisoners) during the celebration of Sallah, according to the governor.
According to the statement, 3,898 prisoners were freed during the governor’s visit to Gorondutse Correctional Center on Sallah Day today, including the 90 detainees who were released today (Saturday) (Saturday).
“We will continue with this good initiative. And at the same time I assure you that the process will continue even after I leave office, if my Deputy, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, who is the governorship candidate of our great party, APC, wins the ballots in 2023,” he said.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s call for decongestion of our correctional facilities is being complied with by this exercise.
They received assurances from Governor Ganduje that he would keep up the good job until the end of his administration in 2023.
