Fire broke out at the Lagos State University (LASU) campus in Ojo, Lagos, on Friday, Dec. 9.

The fire, said to be caused by a power surge, affected no fewer than seven offices.

The Directorate of Internal Audit; Bursar’s office; Risk Insurance & Investment, Bursar Mini Registry  & Reception; Payroll & Pension Unit; Budget & Budgetary Control and Deputy Director Office were all affected.

A preliminary report from the state emergency management agency (LASEMA) indicated that the fire outbreak occurred in the Directorate of Internal Audit (Property management unit) office located on the 4th Floor of the building.

Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said while no lives were lost, the Directorate office was grossly affected by the inferno.

Oke-Osanyintolu: "The fire damage has extended to some of the ceiling claddings. The fire was promptly put out by the Lagos Fire Service and Agency responders.

"A post disaster risk assessment is ongoing with a view to identifying any potential hazards and secondary incident."

LASEMA boss said after the post disaster risk was conducted, it was concluded that "there is no threat of any possible ignition to any of the office."

"The members of staff were sensitized on safety and precautionary measures needed to avoid such incident," he added.
