The recent report that some policemen on night patrol abducted and gang-raped a 16-year-old girl in Kano State calls for diligent investigation and prosecution to ensure that all those responsible for the reprehensible act are brought to book. Such indecent attacks on young girls by policemen have been on the increase in recent times. Unfortunately, most of them are under-reported, while those reported suffer lack of diligent prosecution.
According to reports, the policemen seized the girl on December 11, 2010 and the kept her in captivity for 28 days. During this period, the girl was repeatedly raped by many policemen, including two officers. Following the outrage and public outcry the case generated, the Federal Government, last week, ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, to arrest and prosecute the policemen involved in the criminal act.
While issuing the directive to the Police High Command, the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke (SAN), observed that the dastardly act was not only criminal, but also constituted a grave violation of the victim’s fundamental right to respect and dignity of her person. He chided the Police High Command for keeping silent on the incident that had attracted wide publicity and public condemnation.
Adoke reiterated that it was disheartening that the incident occurred at a time when this administration had undertaken to ensure the full implementation of the Child Rights Act 2003; the protection and enforcement of the fundamental rights of citizens, and to address the constraints and problems confronting the nation’s criminal justice system. Rape of underage girls by policemen is now rampant in the country, Something drastic must be done to stop the beastly act. The Kano case is just one out of many of such wanton abuses by policemen in virtually all states of the federation.
At Aba, a Divisional Police Officer allegedly raped a girl to death. Also, in Kwara State, a police corporal was arrested for alleged rape of a young lady. Sometime ago, five policemen of Imo State Police Command were interrogated for alleged rape of a 12-year old girl. And in Enugu, a lady was allegedly raped and infected with HIV by policemen. Such cases are legion. We condemn in strong terms the brazen criminality being perpetrated by policemen on underage girls and other females in some parts of the country.
It is ridiculous that those charged with the responsibility of protecting members of the public violate the rights of such citizens through forceful sex. This is particularly more depressing in the case of minors. Subjecting an underage girl to bouts of violent sex for many days is traumatic and could make the victim psychologically disoriented for life. No doubt, the girl has been thoroughly brutalised and dehumanised by these thoughtless and shameless men in police uniform.
These wicked policemen should be diligently prosecuted. Let all those found culpable be severely punished. This will deter others from toeing such ignoble path. There should be no cover ups of whatever kind in this case. The victim should be given all the medical attention she needs including psychotherapy and drugs to prevent segxwally transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS.
This particular case should be used as an example. Convicting randy policemen is the only way to ensure that such infractions of the law by policemen are not repeated. Let the police work on its image by doing away with misfits in its midst. Time has come for police authorities to periodically examine patrol personnel to determine their mental stability. Frequent cases of segxwal abuse by policemen are indicators that all might not be mentally well with some of them. Let victims of police segxwal impropriety seek justice. Let the courts, as the last hope of the citizenry, give them justice by punishing indicted police operatives.

It's a pity that we don't have a jail system a bit more like the UK, and in the US. These scumbags will get the same kind of treatment that they meted out to underage young girls by fellow men.
FAKE PROFILES DOESN'T BOTHER ME ONE BIT, UNLESS PEOPLE HIDE BEHIND THEM TO SPIT VENOM. SHOW THE BOLDNESS OF A LION NEXT TIME......USE YOUR ORIGINAL PROFILE!!

No evil they says go unpunish. These wanton abuses of human right should be stop! And this should not be limit to only police force alone but to all other uniform personnel cos they believed that once, they put on that uniform ,they are above law. Imagined how can a policeman that sworn under oath to protect life and properties turn around to mess up the force he sworned to uphold. This simply amount to volition of fundamental Human Right. The law must take it cause. It is high time police brutalityof citizentry should be put a final FULL STOP. I am using this medium to call on our new IG to be up and doing. it is time to fish out those that tanish the image of Nigerian Police force and show them the way out. The same measure sholud also be melt to those police personnel who believed that they can not do without extortion of motorist, they are also the bad eggs in the police force. Remember police are your friends but time without number the reverse is the case.
