Mrs Iforiti Olowo, the 75-year-old woman who set her son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren ablaze in Akure South local government area of Ondo State, has been confirmed dead. It was gathered that the septuagenarian, who sustained some degrees of burns in the fire, passed away at the weekend in an undisclosed hospital. It would be recalled that the woman, who lived with her son at Aponmu community, along Ondo-Akure road, set the house ablaze while the family was asleep.

Some neighbours broke into the house through the window, rescued her son, Victor Oloro; wife, Rachael; and children, Toluwani and Blessing. They were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owo for medical attention. Unfortunately, Victor and his wife gave up the ghost while their children are said to be receiving treatment. The aged woman, Iforiti, while speaking with journalists after the incident, confessed that she burnt her son and his family, claiming that they were starving her.

A police investigator in the case also confirmed Mrs. Olowo's death. “Yes, she is dead. She has been moved to the morgue.” the police source said. A resident, who spoke to Daily Trust under condition of anonymity, also confirmed the development on Tuesday night. “We have been told now that the woman has given up the ghost," she said.

This is such a pathetic situation. I do not know who to blame at this point. Some daughter in-laws can be so mean to their mother in-laws which may bring about such bad blood. If truly she is starving her mother Inlaw then she must be naive to think that the old woman will simply keep her quiet even though her husband is in support of what she is doing. Some women are foolish. How can you starve your husband’s mother even though your husband supports it. That’s so appalling. If your husband and her mother are not in good terms, she should have been neutral and just be a daughter to her mother in laws and a wife to her husband. You don’t fight your in laws intentionally. It never ends well. I am not justifying the mother Inlaw actions. She should have notified her other children or find a way to report her daughter Inlaw or better still move away from them in order not to get this provoked to where such thought will cross her mind and now set the entire family on fire. 1st Peter 5:8
