Three persons were yesterday arrested in Modakeke, Osun State, for allegedly stealing a DDC machine deployed to Ife Central Local Government Area of the state. The incident occured at the time the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Rufus Akeju, raised the alarmn that suspected hoodlums were threatening the smooth conduct of the exercise.
Besides, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has complained of the inability of its personnel to tackle armed hoodlums due to the fact that his officials were not armed.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Solomon Olusegun, told Daily Sun on phone yesterday that three persons had been arrested in Modakeke by his men for stealing a DDC machine.
“They stole the machine in Ife Central and we recovered it at Modakeke. In fact, three of them are now in police net,” CP Olusegun stated.
The development was also confirmed by the REC during a chat in his office yesterday. Akeju, who spoke to Daily Sun, equally alleged that some hoodlums, masquerading as party agents, were posing threat to the smooth conduct of the exercise, which entered its fifth day today.
“What is major concern to us and which is major concern to all the law-abiding natives of Osun State now is that some hoodlums, masquerading as representatives of political parties, have been going to registration centres, disrupting their activities.
“I want to inform the public through this medium that nobody, no political party that is not accredited from this (REC) office is allowed to go to that place (registration centre).”
