Man Lands In Court For Breaking Into His Pastor's Apartment To Steal ₦100 Salt, Other Items

The Police on Tuesday brought a 36-year-old man, Adamu Abubakar, before an Ogudu Magistrates' Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing ₦100 sachet salt and other items.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge of illegal entry and stealing. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Inspector Bassey Sunday, alleged that the defendant committed the offences on October 22, about 6:15 pm at Sandfield, Ogudu-Orioke, Lagos State.

He said one Adeleye Oladipupo reported that the defendant unlawfully gained entrance, through the window, into his pastor's apartment to steal.

"As at the time he was apprehended, he had in his possession two ladies' shoes valued at ₦8,000, an electric iron worth ₦6,000, a power bank valued at ₦3,500, a red T-shirt worth ₦2,000 and a 250g sachet salt worth ₦100," Sunday said.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 308(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

Section 308(1) stipulates five years' imprisonment for illegal entry to commit a felony.

The Magistrate, O.A. Daodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦20,000 with one surety in like sum. She adjourned the case until November 1 for hearing.
