Gunmen have killed no fewer than 12 persons, with several others sustaining various degrees of injuries in fresh attacks on Anyiin and other communities such as Ayilamo, Iorza and Gbeji in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attackers are alleged to be Fulani herdsmen.

It was gathered from usually dependable eyewitnesses that the renewed attacks which were unprovoked started last Monday with the killing of three innocent persons.

The source further added that the killings continued up to Wednesday and Sunday with about 9 persons losing their lives.

The fleeing eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said apart from invading houses, the attackers blocked Anyiin, Iorza and Gbeji roads in broad daylight, killing more people and collecting various sums of money from helpless villagers.

He called on the Benue State Government to provide security for the defenseless people of Anyiin and its environs who are currently under severe attack.

According to him, the herdsmen carried out the attacks on a daily basis in the last two weeks without interruption from security operatives.

Confirming the attacks while speaking with journalists, the Benue State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Sewuese Anene, said the command had deployed personnel to maintain peace in the troubled communities and called on affected people to remain calm.

Terrorists are killing indigenous people in their communities everyday, instead of sending the military to go and neutralise those Fulani terrorists Disguising as herdmen, you are telling the people to remain calm, so that they will be completely whipped out. It's time every communities are allowed to arm themselves and defend their communities and also be really to join forces and help other communities in time of distress. Personally,i will advice we all join hands and chase all these Fulani bastards back to Sahel where the belong.
