Scores of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters have been killed in another clash between the two groups.

The clash occurred on the islands of Kandahar and Kaduna Ruwa on the Lake Chad shores of Kukawa, near the Nigerian border with Cameroon.
It was gathered that the clash began late afternoon on Monday, January 15, 2024, when the ISWAP faction launched a fresh assault in the camp of Abou Hurayra, a leader of the Buduma faction of Boko Haram .

It was learnt that the ISWAP fighters, led by Ali Kwaya and Abou Hassaini from Kirta in Ngala LGA, arrived on seven canoes with fighters on board and began engaging the rival group. The battle lasted for about an hour.

It was also reported that the ISWAP faction recorded higher casualties, as sources confirmed that out of the seven canoes conveying the ISWAP fighters, only two returned to Kirta.

The latest skirmish is a continuation of the deadly clashes between the two terrorists’ groups, which have resulted in the deaths of tens of fighters from both sides.
