Tragedy struck the community of Kuduru in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as bandits carried out their threat to execute one of the seven individuals they abducted on December 28, 2023. The victim, identified as Olayinka Ogunyemi, a civil engineer, was killed by the bandits who demanded a staggering N290 million ransom for the release of the remaining captives.
According to a source within the community, the bandits made contact on Friday to deliver the grim news of Ogunyemi's execution after families of the hostages failed to meet their exorbitant ransom demand.
The distressing situation has left the community in a state of fear and helplessness, especially as the bandits have now threatened to kill the other captives, including a pregnant woman, a one-and-a-half-year-old boy, two siblings, and two men, if their demands are not met.
Despite efforts to negotiate with the kidnappers, including paying N23 million and providing requested food and supplies, none of the hostages have been released, leaving families desperate for government intervention.
Expressing their anguish and appealing for urgent action, the source pleaded with the federal government, police, and army to intensify efforts to rescue the remaining captives. The community fears further bloodshed and reprisals, as the bandits have vowed to retaliate against Nigeria, whom they claim has wronged them.
The hostages still held by the bandits are identified as Godwin Rachel Adeoye, Godwin Dominic, Austin Buremo, Hassan Usman, Hassan Faosiya, and Bako Azeez, each awaiting their fate as the community anxiously awaits their safe return.
