The Nigerian Army has dismissed rumors of a potential coup against the administration of President Bola Tinubu as "fake news." Reports circulated on Sunday suggesting that the presidential guards had been placed on high alert due to suspicions of a coup plot in Nigeria. However, the Nigerian Army refuted these claims, labeling them as fake news on their official X page.
The speculation of a coup comes amidst heightened tension in Nigeria due to economic challenges, including rising inflation and the high cost of living following the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira by President Tinubu's administration. Despite the concerns, the Army maintains that there is no truth to the rumors of a coup plot.
Additionally, last week, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, issued a warning against calls for a coup, urging people to refrain from such actions. This underscores the military's commitment to upholding democratic principles and maintaining stability in the country.
