The Take It Back Movement, a human-rights group, has defied warnings from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, and embarked on a nationwide protest in Lagos State amidst the ongoing economic crisis in Nigeria. Despite the police caution against violence and disruptions to public order, the movement proceeded with its demonstration in the streets of Lagos on Monday.
The decision to protest comes on the heels of organized labor's announcement of an impending industrial action scheduled for Tuesday, February 26, in response to the economic challenges facing the country.
The police spokesperson in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin, reiterated the Commissioner's warning, emphasizing the need for peaceful demonstrations that respect the rights of others and do not disrupt public order or commercial activities in the state. Commissioner Fayoade assured residents of adequate security measures to safeguard lives and property during the protest.
Despite these warnings, members of the Take It Back Movement took to the streets, carrying placards and voicing their grievances. Their decision to proceed with the protest signals their determination to bring attention to their cause and demand action from the government amidst the economic challenges facing the country.
