Former Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has placed blame on former President Muhammadu Buhari for Nigeria's current economic challenges. In a statement directed at President Bola Tinubu, Fayose urged him to refrain from praising Buhari, emphasizing that the former president left behind a "dead economy" burdened by loans that future generations will be responsible for repaying.
During an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, Fayose expressed concern over the state of Nigeria's economy after eight years of President Buhari's administration. He highlighted the significant amount of debt accumulated during Buhari's tenure, including loans with lengthy repayment periods extending up to 50 years. Fayose warned that these loans would impose a heavy financial burden on future generations.
Fayose urged Tinubu, a leader within their political party, to avoid praising Buhari publicly, stating that such commendations could confuse Nigerians regarding the economic challenges left by the former president. While acknowledging Tinubu's personal relationship with Buhari, Fayose emphasized the need to distinguish between personal interactions and public statements.
In conclusion, Fayose asserted that Buhari's administration had not been beneficial to Nigeria, and he cautioned against characterizing Buhari's tenure as a blessing for the country. Instead, he argued that Buhari's policies had set Nigeria back by several decades, undermining its progress and development.
