Seyi Oyedele, aged 21, appeared before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Thursday, facing charges of defrauding a pastor of N74,000 and threatening his life.
Oyedele, whose residential address was not disclosed, was accused of obtaining money under false pretenses and making threats to the pastor's life. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the Prosecutor, Gbemi Adedeji, the defendant allegedly committed the offenses between September and October 2023, in the Moniya area of Ibadan. During this time, Oyedele purportedly posed as a corps member and deceived Pastor Adebanjo Ajayi into giving him N74,000 for clearance and upkeep. Additionally, the defendant allegedly threatened the pastor's life and ministry, even going as far as threatening to post his picture on social media if he didn't provide financial assistance.
These actions are said to contravene Sections 484 and 86 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Magistrate Mrs. Adebola Adeola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 and required one surety to stand as a guarantor. The case was adjourned until April 3 for further hearing.
