In a stern address following the tragic killing of military personnel in Delta State, President Bola Tinubu has vowed that those responsible for the heinous act will face swift and severe punishment.

The incident, which occurred in the Okuama community of Ughelli South Local Government Area on Thursday, March 14, 2024, claimed the lives of 16 military personnel, including a commanding officer, two majors, one captain, and 12 soldiers. The officers were on a rescue mission to mediate a land dispute between the Okuama and Okoloba communities when they were ambushed and murdered in cold blood by hoodlums.

President Tinubu, expressing profound grief over the needless loss of lives, condemned the perpetrators as "cowardly" in a message released on Sunday, March 17, 2024. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the fallen soldiers, assuring them that justice would be served.

"As the Commander-in-Chief, I join all well-meaning Nigerians and the men and women of our armed forces to mourn the tragic death of our gallant soldiers," President Tinubu's message read in part. "The military high command is already responding to this incident. The cowardly offenders responsible for this heinous crime will not go unpunished."

Emphasizing the inherent dangers faced by servicemen and women in their line of duty, President Tinubu hailed the heroism, courage, and patriotism of the slain officers. He underscored the importance of honoring those who have sacrificed their lives for the nation's safety and unity.

"Any attack on our armed forces is a direct attack on our nation," President Tinubu declared. "We will not accept this wicked act."

President Tinubu granted full authority to the Defence Headquarters and Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher General Musa, to ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice swiftly. He reiterated his government's unwavering commitment to achieving peace and tranquility across Nigeria.

As the nation mourns the loss of its brave soldiers, President Tinubu's resolute stance sends a clear message: those who commit acts of violence against the defenders of the nation will face the full force of justice.

This is in Delta state and not Mali! Within the same country and we still say the country is not at war! If they can slaughter these many soldiers with weapon, what hope is there for an ordinary civilian?

Please don't saddle Mr.President with the responsibility of rescuing the kaduna abductees. Have you not heard that the AREWA CONSULTATIVE FORUM are negotiating with the authority concerned on how much they need before they ( AREWA CONSULTATIVE TERRORISTS) can release the school children ?

The number one soldier in the whole country "died" in an aircraft "accident", with the talk around town being he was murdered because he was determined to step on toes of big men sponsoring insurgency...what was done??? I mean the number one soldier!! Nothing was done.
That's by the way, well as bad as things are with the army, I still trust them to not just let go when their brothers are slain in any community...so let those people prepare, because either legally ordered or illegally, they'll take their pound of flesh.
May the souls of the departed rest in peace.
