In a significant breakthrough, the Kaduna State Police command has successfully arrested a notorious kidnapper, Yakubu Saidu, alias Ismail 'M', who has been implicated in various criminal activities including banditry, culpable homicide, and mischief by fire.
According to a statement released by the command's spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, the arrest follows a distress call received on September 7, 2023, at approximately 2030hrs, regarding an attack at St. Raphael Catholic Church, Kamantan. Upon receiving the alert, police operatives, in collaboration with military personnel, swiftly mobilized to the scene.
Regrettably, the suspects had already set ablaze the priest's residence before the security personnel's arrival. The fire resulted in the tragic loss of one seminarian, Stephen Naaman, and the destruction of property worth millions of naira, including a Honda vehicle and a motorcycle.
After diligent investigation and persistent efforts by the police, Yakubu Saidu, the alleged mastermind and leader of the notorious kidnapping gang, was apprehended on March 22, 2024. He confessed to his involvement in the heinous crime.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Audu Dabigi, commended the police operatives for their swift and effective response to the distress call. Their dedication and bravery reflect their commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of the citizens of Kaduna State.
The apprehension of Yakubu Saidu marks a significant victory for law enforcement agencies in their ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities and ensure peace and security in the state.
