In a significant crackdown on drug-related crimes, the Kaduna State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of 279 suspects and the recovery of 2,092.5 kilograms of illicit substances during the first quarter of the year.

Samaila Danmalam, the State Commander of NDLEA, disclosed this information to reporters on Saturday in Kaduna. The arrests comprised individuals involved in drug trafficking, dealing, and usage. Additionally, the agency dismantled 39 illicit drug joints across various locations within the state.

The seized substances included cocaine, heroin, cannabis, Tramadol, Methamphetamine, and other psychotropic drugs, collectively weighing over 2,000 kilograms.

Moreover, the NDLEA secured 48 convictions, arraigned 68 suspects, and charged 34 others during the same period.

Commander Danmalam emphasized that besides enforcement activities, the command actively engaged in rehabilitation, counseling, and public sensitization campaigns to educate people about the hazards associated with drug abuse and trafficking.

He urged the public to refrain from engaging in illicit drug activities and encouraged citizens to provide valuable information to aid the agency in fulfilling its mandate effectively within the state.
