In a heartbreaking turn of events, Alhaji Muftau Mohammed, a resident of Gbeganu Area in Minna, the capital of Niger State, tragically passed away while attempting to bail out his two sons from police custody.

According to reports from Daily Trust, the elderly man had gone to the Morris Police Division to secure the release of his sons, Mubarak Ahmed and Yusuf Mohammed, who had been arrested by the police. The sons recounted that they were picked up by the police around 11 p.m. while sleeping outside their house due to the heat.

Yusuf explained, "We were lying down in front of our house around 11:23 p.m. when the police patrol vans passed by. They returned later and asked us what we were doing outside. We explained that we were sleeping there due to the heat. They then arrested us and took us to the station."

Tragically, while in custody, Alhaji Muftau Mohammed suddenly collapsed and passed away, leaving his sons devastated. The deceased's neighbor, Mr. Dauda Jimo, who accompanied him to the police station, revealed that Alhaji Mohammed had high blood pressure and was prone to severe headaches when disturbed from sleep.

Alhaji Ahmad Abdullahi, another neighbor who witnessed the incident, recounted how the news of Alhaji Mohammed's death caused his wife to faint in shock upon arrival at the police station.

Confirming the incident, the Niger State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that an investigation had been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding Alhaji Mohammed's death and to ascertain if any negligence had occurred, promising necessary disciplinary action if warranted.
