In a brazen act of criminality, bandits stormed the Dutse suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday night, leaving a trail of fear and uncertainty as they abducted at least five individuals.
The invaders reportedly infiltrated the community under the Bwari Area Council of the FCT, exploiting its hilly terrain to gain entry from the neighboring area of Mpape.
According to eyewitnesses, the bandits descended upon the Mango Tree area in the New Jerusalem part of Dutse around 8 p.m. on Saturday, catching residents off guard and plunging the neighborhood into a state of panic.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a resident of the area recounted the harrowing ordeal, revealing that the community remained on edge throughout the night, unable to sleep due to the looming threat of violence.
The resident disclosed, "They came around 8 p.m. and swiftly abducted one woman, three men, and two boys from our midst."
Amid the chaos and terror, the situation took a particularly distressing turn as one of the kidnapped boys, aged three, was later discovered abandoned in the nearby bush on Sunday morning.
Tragically, the mother of the abducted boys endured further anguish as she was reportedly subjected to physical assault by the kidnappers. She is currently undergoing medical treatment at a nearby hospital for her injuries.
The brazen attack has sent shockwaves through the Dutse community and raised concerns about the escalating insecurity plaguing the region. Residents are now calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safe return of the abducted individuals.
As investigations into the incident unfold, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for robust security measures to safeguard communities against the menace of banditry and criminal abduction.
