In a distressing incident, Rev. Father Gabriel Ukeh, the presiding priest of St. Thomas Parish in Zaman Dabo Community, situated in the Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has been abducted by bandits.
The abduction took place during the early hours of Sunday, as the parish priest was taken from the safety of the parish rectory.
Revealing the unfortunate development, the Vicar General (Pastoral), Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Kazah, issued a press statement on Sunday, urging for prayers for the swift and safe release of Father Ukeh.
Expressing condemnation for the recurring trend of kidnappings for ransom in the region, Rev. Kazah called upon the government to bolster security measures, especially with the approaching Sallah celebrations.
"While we solicit fervent prayers for his urgent and safe release, we equally condemn this act of incessant kidnappings for ransom of innocent and defenceless citizens of our communities," the statement read.
In collaboration with security agencies, efforts are underway to secure Father Ukeh's safe return, with a plea for calm and adherence to lawful means in handling the situation.
The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed awareness of the incident, assuring to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
