Tragedy struck in the early hours of Saturday as armed robbers launched a daring attack on Sunshine Homes estate in the Lokogoma area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, resulting in the death of retired Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere of the Nigerian Army.

The incident, which occurred around 3:00 a.m., saw the retired military officer lose his life during the robbery operation, marking a grim turn for residents of the upscale estate.

Confirming the unfortunate event, SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, issued a statement addressing the incident: "In response to the tragic and unprecedented attack at Sunshine Homes estate by armed robbers, resulting in the untimely demise of one Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere (rtd.) on June 22, 2024, at approximately 03:00 a.m, the Commissioner of Police, FCT, Benneth Igweh has promptly ordered a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding this regrettable event."

The statement continued to express condolences to the family of the deceased, assuring them and the public of the police force's commitment to ensuring swift justice: "Expressing profound condolences to the bereaved family, CP Benneth Igweh assures the family and the public of swift justice, with every effort in conduit to ensure the perpetrators of the atrocious act are apprehended and brought to justice."

The attack has heightened concerns about security in residential estates within the FCT, with residents and stakeholders calling for enhanced security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As investigations into the robbery and tragic death of Brigadier General Udokwere continue, the community remains in mourning over the loss of a distinguished retired military officer and advocate for security reform.
