The family of Kogi-based journalist Mohammed Bashir and nine other individuals who were kidnapped two weeks ago in Kaduna State have been released from captivity.

Bashir’s wife, Aminat Shana, and his two daughters, Aisha and Hajara, were among those abducted in August 2024. The journalist, who serves as a correspondent for the Nigeria Telegraph, confirmed the release in a statement on Saturday but did not disclose whether a ransom was paid to secure their freedom.

"My dear colleagues, I wish to thank you all for your prayers and concern. My family and other family members kidnapped three weeks ago in Kaduna have finally been released. I am most grateful for your show of love; I pray such will never happen to any of us, our family, or relations. Thank you once again," Bashir said in his statement.

Other family members who have regained their freedom include Aisha Saba Khadija, Haruna Adamu, Muhammad Abubakar, Asmau Abubakar, Usman Abubakar, and Hauwa Muhammad.
