Nigeria’s Folashade Oluwafemiayo has shattered her own world record in the women’s over 86kg Para-Powerlifting category, making history at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. The 39-year-old, who serves as captain of Team Nigeria, secured a gold medal after becoming the first Para-athlete to lift an astounding 167kg.

Oluwafemiayo’s triumph places her ahead of Deng Xuemei of China, who claimed silver with a 155kg lift, and Egypt’s Nadia Ali, who took bronze with a 145kg lift.

This victory brings Nigeria’s overall medal tally at the Paralympics to seven, with two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.
