In a major crackdown on illegal drug cultivation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, has eradicated more than 100,000 kilograms of cannabis from 51 hectares of farmland in the Ise-Ekiti forest reserve, Ekiti State.
The operation took place on Tuesday, September 3, and Wednesday, September 4, targeting three major camps within the forest. A statement issued on Sunday by NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the destruction of the cannabis farms located in settlements identified as Aba Saalaja (23 hectares), Aba Paanu (12 hectares), and Aba Arogunmatidi (16 hectares).
Babafemi explained that NDLEA operatives, supported by the Nigerian Army, stormed the camps inside the Ise/Orun Local Government Area, destroying the cannabis crops spread across the vast farmlands.
This operation underscores the NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to combat the cultivation and distribution of illegal drugs across the country.
