The Anambra State Police Command has arrested eight suspects linked to various criminal activities, including cultism, illegal firearm possession, and armed robbery. The arrests were part of a series of security operations across the state.
According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Friday, September 13, 2024, the police recovered a long gun, a locally made Beretta pistol, ammunition, and a stolen vehicle from the suspects.
The statement revealed that two suspects were apprehended at their hideout in Nnewi following a technology-driven investigation. The arrests were connected to a kidnapping case reported on August 19, 2024, in Ihiala, where the victim was later released. The suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime and are cooperating with police investigations.
In a separate operation, police-led joint security forces in Aguata arrested five individuals involved in vandalizing electrical infrastructure. Acting on credible information, the police stormed a hideout and apprehended Okorie Miracle, Joshua Ifeanyi Ekwa, Aneke Okorie, Mmesoma Faithful, and Chukwuzekwu Mba, all between the ages of 20 and 26. The suspects were found in possession of locally made short guns, vandalized electricity cables, and tools used in the crime. They have provided information aiding in the hunt for other members of the gang and buyers of the stolen materials.
Additionally, the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) arrested a 25-year-old man, Chigozie Ejikeme, on the Nise/Agulu road during a routine patrol. Ejikeme, who attempted to evade a security checkpoint, was found with a locally made Beretta pistol and a live 9mm round of ammunition. He confessed to being a member of the Black Axe secret cult, and his black Lexus vehicle was also impounded.
SP Ikenga confirmed that all suspects will be charged in court once investigations are completed.
