Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested three individuals on suspicion of vote buying during the ongoing governorship election in Edo State.
The arrests took place on Saturday around 10:00 a.m. in the Egor Local Government Area, as reported by Channels TV. Among the detained suspects were two men and one woman, who were taken away by EFCC officials for further investigation.
The arrests sparked local discontent, with some residents accusing the EFCC of unfairly targeting the individuals, claiming they were being victimized.
The EFCC had previously issued warnings to political parties, cautioning them against engaging in vote-buying practices during the election.
