Troops from Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), tasked with maintaining peace in Plateau State, have apprehended two individuals for alleged involvement in gun-running activities. The arrests were made in Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA), with the recovery of several firearms.

Major Samson Zhakom, Media and Information Officer for OPSH, announced the developments during a press briefing in Jos on Saturday. He noted that the suspects were captured while completing a transaction for arms and ammunition valued at approximately N5 million.

This recent operation follows an earlier bust where five suspected gunrunners were detained in Bayameni Community, Jos North LGA, along with the seizure of automatic weapons and about 6,000 rounds of assorted ammunition.

“On September 18, during follow-up operations in Bokkos Town, we successfully dismantled another criminal syndicate,” Zhakom said. The suspects, identified as Matawal Bitrus and Thomas Benedict, were apprehended at the Banana Island Hotel, where authorities recovered two AK-47 rifles, one automatic pistol, and three AK-47 magazines.

Highlighting the proliferation of firearms as a significant contributor to crime in the region, Zhakom called for community support to assist military and security forces in combating criminal activities.
