Evangel Ganiyu, a student at Anchor University, has publicly accused the institution's Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Oye Bandele, of failing to address a serious segxwal assault incident that occurred on campus. Ganiyu took to her X account on Saturday, September 28, 2024, to recount her harrowing experience after reporting the assault to Bandele.
According to Ganiyu, the university is currently undergoing renovations, which has led to the employment of casual laborers for various projects. One of these workers allegedly entered her room during the night, and she awoke to find him nearly naked beside her in bed.
"I woke up feeling the weight of someone next to me, thinking it was my friend who stayed over. To my shock, it was a laborer named Uche Okoro, almost fully naked, with his shorts so low I could see his backside," she stated. Ganiyu immediately alerted her porter, who reported the incident to the supervisor.
The supervisor then lined up the laborers for Ganiyu to identify the assailant, which she did, but Okoro denied the allegations. "He insisted he didn’t do it until another female student, who he had been peeping on in the bathroom earlier that day, confirmed his identity," she explained. Following this, Ganiyu stated that Okoro began pleading for forgiveness after being confronted.
Despite the gravity of the situation, Ganiyu reported that other students and staff members urged her to forgive Okoro, claiming he was under the influence of alcohol. Feeling compelled to inform her father, she took further action.
However, Ganiyu's experience worsened when she approached the Vice Chancellor. Rather than expressing sympathy, she alleged that Bandele accused her of dishonesty and made inappropriate inquiries. "When I explained what happened, he asked if I was fully clothed and whether I was wearing underwear. He then questioned how I wouldn’t know if a man had penetrated me," Ganiyu recounted. She described Bandele's remarks as degrading, accusing her of being "economical with the truth."
Ganiyu stressed that this incident is not an isolated one, as she believes the university's administration has a history of attempting to cover up segxwal assault cases involving female students. "This isn’t the first time such incidents occur here, and instead of justice, the school tries to shame the victims into silence," she said.
She called on the public to hold Anchor University accountable for what she described as systemic discrimination against female students and urged that her voice be heard to prevent further injustices.

As a result, they hire a lot of unskilled labour workers to come and do things like carry bricks, metal rods, etc. All this is just for context. Today, I woke up to feel the weight of somebody beside me. I believed it was my friend who slept over. It wasn't.
