The Ogun State Police have apprehended a 29-year-old man, Ogunnaike Phillips, suspected of kidnapping, rape, and multiple murders, including the recent case of 17-year-old Habeebah Akinsanya.

Phillips, reportedly a member of the Aye confraternity, was arrested in connection with the brutal killing of Akinsanya, who was raped and murdered at her father's farm near Mile 6, close to Ogun State Television, in September.

Police Commissioner Abiodun Alamutu confirmed the arrest, revealing that Phillips confessed to killing three other underage girls in a similar manner. He disclosed that the suspect led officers to various burial sites in Abeokuta, Ewekoro, and the Ajebo Road area of Obafemi Owode local government, where the remains of his victims were discovered. The other identified victims are 22-year-old Abigail Dina and 23-year-old Mary Ogunyemi.

According to the commissioner, Phillips and an accomplice, Danjuma, who remains at large, lured their victims to isolated areas, confiscated their phones, demanded ransom from their families, and subsequently murdered them.

In a chilling statement to the press, Phillips expressed a desire for the death penalty, attributing his actions to the influence of his accomplice and other cult members. “I don’t want the government to do anything for me, me and Danjuma and those cultist members, once they catch us, if they want to give us judgment, they should just kill us. Because they are the ones who led me to these stupid things” he said.

Alamutu, however, expressed dissatisfaction at the increasing number of missing persons and crime among youths and assured that an investigation was underway to identify and apprehend the other gang members.

He pledged to bring the suspect before the court to face the repercussions of his horrific deed, as families of the victims demanded justice for the untimely death of their loved ones.

Commissioner Alamutu voiced his concern over the rising number of missing persons and youth-related crimes in the region. He assured the public that investigations are ongoing to locate and apprehend other members of the gang.
