
A tragic incident occurred on Friday in the Amazing Grace Estate of Elepe, Ikorodu, where 30-year-old Motunrayo Olaniyi allegedly stabbed his newlywed wife, 25-year-old Olajumoke, to death during a domestic argument.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, the fatal altercation escalated into violence, with Olaniyi reportedly stabbing Olajumoke multiple times. Following the attack, he locked her inside their room and set the space ablaze.
Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the disturbing details, stating that a distress call was made to the Ikorodu Division, prompting officers to respond promptly. Upon arrival, they managed to extinguish the fire, only to discover Olajumoke's lifeless body with severe abdominal injuries.
Hundeyin detailed the events in a statement: “A distress call was received on October 4 regarding a domestic dispute between a newlywed couple, Motunrayo Olaniyi and his wife Olajumoke, at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, Ikorodu. During the altercation, the husband allegedly stabbed his wife, locked her in the room, and subsequently set it on fire, while he inflicted wounds on himself.”
After the incident, Olaniyi was rescued by the police and transported to a local hospital for treatment of his self-inflicted injuries. He was discharged shortly thereafter and taken into custody for questioning.
The police have initiated an investigation into the case, with preliminary findings indicating that Olaniyi acted violently during the confrontation. The body of Olajumoke has been transferred to the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The police are continuing their investigation to uncover further details surrounding the couple’s tumultuous relationship and the events leading to this tragic loss.
