In a shocking turn of events, a family of seven has been apprehended by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, for their alleged involvement in the theft of bags of rice from an orphanage located in Shagari Village, Akure.

The suspects, identified as John Agbor, 42, and his wife, Mary Agbor, 38, were arrested along with their five children. John, who worked as a security guard at the orphanage, claimed that the children in the orphanage persuaded him to commit the theft, promising him money in return.

During a press briefing at the Amotekun Corps headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, Corps Commander Adetunji Adeleye revealed that a thorough investigation had implicated the entire family in the crime. “We have uncovered a family that specializes in breaking into homes, including the husband, wife, and their children. They are indeed a family of robbers,” he stated.

Commander Adeleye also noted that while they were parading the father, mother, and two of their older sons, two of the children are minors aged between 12 and 15, and therefore will not be publicly displayed.

In addition to the Agbor family, the Amotekun Corps paraded 20 other suspects involved in various criminal activities throughout the state. Commander Adeleye informed reporters that the Amotekun Rangers, a specialized unit within the agency focused on monitoring the state's forest reserves, had recently undertaken significant operations in the Elegbeka forest, an area notorious for kidnappings. During these operations, five kidnapping attempts were thwarted, and nine victims were rescued.

The incident has raised concerns about the involvement of families in criminal activities and the implications for community safety in Ondo State.
