Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) made a significant drug bust on Thursday, October 3, intercepting a commercial bus marked JAL 198 YQ traveling from Onitsha in Anambra State to Jalingo in Taraba State.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the agency conducted a thorough search of the vehicle, leading to the discovery of a substantial quantity of illicit opioids, including tramadol, rohypnol, and codeine-based syrup. These substances were cleverly concealed within various compartments of the bus.
During the operation, two suspects identified as Pako Thomas and Emmanuel Anyigor were apprehended and are currently in custody.
In a related development, another suspect, Chibuzor Okafor, was arrested on Wednesday, October 2, at Wukari while attempting to transport 80 blocks of cannabis, weighing a total of 38 kg. The illegal drugs were cleverly hidden within bags of garri, highlighting the ongoing challenges in combating drug trafficking in the region.
The NDLEA continues to intensify its efforts to tackle drug-related crimes, underscoring the agency's commitment to ensuring public safety and curbing the illicit drug trade in Nigeria.
