In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the Butura community of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, four young men were killed during a gunmen attack at a mining site on Friday night. The attack, which occurred around 9 PM, also left five others injured.
Sabastine Magit, President of the Butura Youth Movement, reported that the victims were working at the site when armed assailants, speaking in the Fulani dialect, opened fire indiscriminately. The deceased have been identified as Bwefuk Musa (21), Klingshak Dickson (21), Promise Joshua (20), and Nyam Abaka (20).
“This unprovoked assault on innocent youths working at a mining site near the villages of Kuba and Maikatako is yet another act of violence against our community,” Magit stated in a release on Saturday, October 12. He noted that this attack comes just days after a similar tragedy in the village of Wumat, where five members of a family, including a pregnant woman, were killed.
Witnesses reported that the attackers fled the scene before military personnel stationed nearby could respond to the situation. This incident is part of a disturbing trend, with over 20 residents of the Butura community reportedly killed in the past month by suspected Fulani militants.
The injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment, while local authorities and security forces have been alerted to the escalating tensions in the area following the attack. Community leaders are calling for urgent action to address the rising violence and ensure the safety of their residents.
