The Imo State Police Command has thwarted an attempted abduction and organ trafficking operation with the arrest of a 38-year-old suspect in Owerri. The arrest followed the kidnapping of a 19-year-old girl, whose identity is being withheld for privacy reasons.
According to the Command's Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, the incident occurred on October 10, 2024, in the bustling Douglass area of Owerri. Acting on intelligence, police operatives intercepted a suspected human trafficking syndicate that was forcefully abducting the young woman in a blue-and-white bus.
ASP Okoye explained that the quick-thinking victim bravely jumped from the moving vehicle as police gave chase. She was rescued, while the police apprehended one suspect, identified as Justine Emmanuel, a 38-year-old man from Amaimo in Ikeduru LGA, Imo State. The other members of the gang fled into nearby bushes, abandoning the vehicle in the process.
The command has launched an investigation to track down the remaining suspects and uncover the full extent of the criminal operation.
ASP Okoye praised the swift response of the officers and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to protecting citizens and combating violent crime in the state. He also urged the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities, promising further updates as investigations progress.
