The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the tragic killing of Abdulrafiu Afegbua, commonly known as Uroy, who was shot dead by gunmen in the Awoyemi area of Okpella, located in the Etsako East Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson SP Moses Yamu disclosed the details of the incident during a press briefing in Benin City, emphasizing that an investigation is currently underway to apprehend the suspects involved in the assassination.
According to sources close to the victim’s family, Uroy was at home with his wife on the night of the incident when he received a phone call that prompted him to leave the house. The source revealed that Uroy, unaware of any danger, rushed out to meet the unidentified caller despite his wife's attempts to persuade him to stay.
Upon arriving at the designated location, Uroy was shot at close range in the chest and neck, resulting in his immediate death.
Concerned about his prolonged absence, Uroy's wife attempted to reach him by phone, but her calls went unanswered. This alarming situation led friends and family to organize a search party the following morning to locate him. Tragically, Uroy was discovered deceased in a nearby bush, with his motorbike abandoned at the scene.
The police have urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward as they continue their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
