
In a significant operation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confiscated a substantial quantity of opioids valued at approximately N22.74 billion from three prominent seaports in Nigeria.
On Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi disclosed that agents successfully intercepted 32,607,900 tramadol pills, valued at over N12.57 billion, along with 1,451,994 bottles of codeine-based syrup estimated at N10.16 billion.
The seizures took place at Lekki Deep Seaport and Apapa Seaport in Lagos, as well as the Port Harcourt Port Complex in Onne, Rivers State. The total estimated value of the drugs seized amounts to N22,740,958,000.
According to Babafemi, these illicit consignments were flagged based on intelligence and underwent a thorough joint examination conducted by NDLEA officials in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies. The operations occurred from Monday, October 7, to Friday, October 11, 2024, highlighting the agency's ongoing commitment to combatting drug trafficking in the country.
