
In a significant crackdown on infrastructure vandalism, the Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended seven individuals accused of damaging critical pipeline structures belonging to the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC). The arrests were made following an operation on Friday, October 25, during which police recovered 53 pieces of vandalized pipelines.
According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer Suleiman Nguroje, the suspects were detained after a tip-off from a concerned citizen led to the discovery of their illicit activities. The police described the vandalism as a severe act of economic sabotage, posing a serious threat to public safety and compromising vital infrastructure that connects Adamawa State with the southern regions of Nigeria.
The arrested individuals include:
- Umar Musa, 40, residing on Kaduna Road, Abuja
- Mohammed Hassan, 25, from Kasuwan Shanu, Potiskum, Yobe State
- Adamu Abdullahi, 28, hailing from Bununu Funai, Yobe State
- Yakubu Adamu, 27, from Sabon Layi, Potiskum, Yobe State
- Gabriel Wale, 40, residing in Mafoluku, Ishodi, Lagos State
- Abubakar Garba, 40, from Angwan Dosa, Kaduna State
- Aliyu Muhammad, 28, from Darazo Local Government Area, Bauchi State
“This distressing incident poses a substantial threat to public safety and represents a severe act of economic sabotage,” the police statement emphasized. The investigation into the case is ongoing, with efforts being made to identify and apprehend additional collaborators believed to be assisting the suspects from behind the scenes.
