The Delta State Police Command has arrested Ndubisi Okechukwu, a former councillor who served Emu-Uno in Kwale Local Government Area, on allegations of involvement in a kidnapping scheme. The arrest took place on October 21, 2024, following intelligence that foiled the plot.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, explaining that the police received credible information regarding a planned abduction of a prominent member of the Abbi community. Acting on this, CSP Florence Onum, DPO of Abbi Division, collaborated with officers from Kwale Division to initiate a covert investigation, which ultimately led to the arrest of Okechukwu.
According to SP Edafe, Okechukwu reportedly disclosed that he had been suspended from his councillor position and aimed to kidnap the community member to force a ransom payment from the local government. He allegedly reasoned that the local government would intervene financially since the intended target had close ties to the local government chairman.
Okechukwu remains in police custody as investigations continue. The police have yet to release further details about possible accomplices or additional motives behind the alleged plot.
