The Ebonyi State government has announced the arrest of 26 unauthorized Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) collectors and fake agents operating within the state. This crackdown was confirmed by the state’s Commissioner for Transport and Special Projects, Prince Igboke Emeka Collins, during a press briefing in Abakaliki on Sunday.

Collins credited Governor Francis Nwifuru for setting the groundwork to improve revenue collection and development in the state. “All credit goes to our leader and the People’s Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, who has truly provided the platform for us to contribute to the state’s growth,” he stated. Collins noted that under the governor’s guidance, his ministry has been able to restore order in the state’s transport system, a sector previously plagued by unauthorized revenue collectors and fake agencies.

“When I took office, we identified numerous irregularities within the transport sector. Many individuals were collecting revenue falsely under the guise of state affiliation,” Collins explained. “With the governor’s support, we apprehended nearly 26 of these illegal operators and brought much-needed sanity to the system. Today, we can confidently say that genuine agents are now responsible for state revenue collections and are remitting funds as required.”

Additionally, Collins expressed the Ebonyi State Internal Revenue Service’s (EBSIRS) satisfaction with the Ministry of Transport's efforts, affirming that a harmonized and transparent system is now in place.

In other developments, Collins addressed the recent delay in the transition of the new General Manager of Ebonyi State Transport Corporation (EBOTRANS), Mrs. Nnenna Jennifer Igwe. Contrary to rumors of internal resistance, Collins clarified that no obstacles were posed by his ministry. Igwe has since assumed her role following a smooth reconciliation with the outgoing general manager last Wednesday.
